Untargetability refers to units in a state where they are no longer valid targets for
aura,
unit-targeted,
auto-targeted,
direction-targeted and
location-targeted effects, including those sourced by basic attacks, abilities, summoner spells, item effects, item actives, and runes. All units become untargetable at the end of a match.

Effects that have already been applied, such as buffs or debuffs, are not invalidated by untargetability. Notable examples include
damage over time,
tethers, and delayed abilities such as
Death Mark,
Sleepy Trouble Bubble, and
Time Bomb.

The act of becoming untargetable will also interrupt any effects that have already acquired the unit as a target, such as target commands, and most untargetabilities will additionally
destroy all incoming targeted
projectiles (e.g.
Ace in the Hole,
Bouncing Blade,
Frostbite, turret shots). Non-champion units (e.g.
turrets,
minions,
monsters) will lose aggro if their target becomes untargetable.

Vanish applies all the effects of becoming untargetable, but also makes the target unable to act and completely undetectable. All units are briefly vanished (but not untargetable) at the start of a match on
Summoner's Rift.

An aura is an effect that applies a buff or debuff to surrounding units nearby the source. It uses an area of effect range that affects any valid targets within.
Unit-targeted is a targeting paradigm which requires a valid target within range to cast on. The target needs to be
visible in order to use the effect. All
basic attacks use unit-targeting.
Auto-targeted is a targeting paradigm that is autonomous; the source is not required to acquire a target, rather the ability or spell upon activation applies its effects by itself selectively. This type of targeting usually needs a sufficient target within range to be castable.
Direction-targeted is a targeting paradigm in which an ability or spell needs an input to cast from the source in a specific type of direction. They are referred to as skillshots and more often than not, considered
projectiles.
Location-targeted is a targeting paradigm based entirely on designating the source to choose a target area before the activation of an ability or spell. It mostly consists of temporarily occupying the target location to affects units within.
Many effects are triggered whenever you deal an instance of persistent damage. For example:
Rylai's Crystal Scepter,
Liandry's Torment and
Luden's Companion.
Omnivamp and
Physical vamp (where applicable) heal for a percentage of damage dealt.
Arcane Comet's cooldown is reduced by 5% whenever you deal an instance of persistent damage.
Effects triggered by damage sub-types will occur (e.g.
The Black Cleaver on instances of
Physical damage and
Morellonomicon on instances of
Magic damage).
A tether is an effect that applies a bind buff on both the source and the target(s), which then creates the actual tether that requires both to remain in close proximity so any accompanying effects (damage, crowd control, heals, buffs, etc) can apply.
Generally, a bind with an enemy will break along with the tether, whereas a bind with an ally will last indefinitely and automatically reapply the tether when within range.

A turret, also called a tower, is a fortification that defends a part of territory. It provides vision of the area and autonomously fires homing bolts at nearby enemies, establishing a defensive ground for allies.
Turrets are most notable in
Classic, defending against waves of enemy
Minions from their ultimate goal of destroying the nexus. Champions work to destroy enemy turrets to push their assault into the enemies' territory. Turrets visually fall apart as they take damage.
Minions are autonomous units that spawn periodically from their nexus and advance along the lanes toward the enemy nexus. They basic attack any enemy unit or structure they find in their way, but can be killed for
gold.
There are four kind of minions:
melee minions,
caster minions,
siege minions and
super minions.
Monsters are neutral units in League of Legends. Unlike
minions, monsters do not fight for either team, and will only do so if aggroed (provoked) – with the exception of the
Rift Scuttler, which simply runs away when attacked.
