Note: Sulfides and ammonla promote bocterial growth which con cause fill fouling: conformance to the imils above will ossist in controling bacteria to the recommended levels. Any amount of oil or grease moy adversely affect thermal performance. Suspended solids can lead to deposits in fill, resulting in fouling, and in basins, resulting in under-deposit corrosion. Maintenonce programs should be employed to prevent buildup of solids in basins. Filtration and/or bosin sweeper systems can be used to reduce buildup.

Certain contaminants or treatment chemicals such as surfactants, glycols, biodispersants and antifoams may increase drift rate. When minimizing drift is vital, the circulating water shall have a surface tension of at least 65 dynes/cm (ASTM D1331 Method A) and a total organic carbon (TOC) level below 25 ppm. Reclaim or re-use waters in particular may contain contaminants which increase drift rate either directly or by necessitating the use of treatment chemicals which increase drift rate.

Total organic corbon (TOC) should be less thon 50 ppm in circulating waler. Avoid fibrous, oily, greasy, latty, or lamy moferials which can plug film fill.
