A
warp gate, often shortened to gate and colloquially known as portal, is a map feature present in various game modes. Because warp gates are usually themed after the map they are in, their name may vary. They are called Hex-gates on
Summoner's Rift and Frost-gates on the
Howling Abyss.

The interactions warp gates have can vary by map, to accomodate each of their gameplay, but they all share the same fundamental function: they exist in pairs and allow traversal of the distance between them while the user is
untargetable. Both sides of the gate visually expand and/or light up while being used.

Warp gates were first introduced to the game as Hex-gates in Summoner's Rift for the Hextech Elemental Rift, alongside the Preseason 2022 patch (V11.23).

The default warp gate refers to their fundamental behavior on
Summoner's Rift and the
Howling Abyss.

To use a gate, players issue a Move/Attack order on it (default: MB2 / right-click). This initiates a Warp
channel for 0.75 seconds. Upon completion, the champion
dashes to the gate's exit over 2.25 seconds, during which they are
untargetable and
unable to act. Upon arrival, the player may additionally select ( or
) a direction away from the exit point to
dash another time for a certain distance beyond the apex of the gate, though not through terrain: 500 units on Summoner's Rift, and 250 units on Howling Abyss.

blink to their destination after the same time spent dashing. The blink occurs regardless of the dash completing or not.

cast-inhibiting crowd control or
ground.

地面控制的影响下开始。 - The Warp channel can be interrupted by taking damage, issuing any non-Hold/Stop order, as well as by becoming
grounded. When that happens, the afflicted champion will be locked out of using that gate again for 1.5 seconds.

untargetability gained from completing Hexgate Warp will not destroy inbound projectiles.

After successfully entering a warp gate, both the gate that the champion entered and the one they will exit from incur the same per-champion cooldown: 30 seconds on Summoner's Rift, and 15 seconds on Howling Abyss. A circular timer around the gate will appear for the player during this cooldown.

In maps other than
Summoner's Rift and
Howling Abyss, warp gates' interactions may be altered, such as (and not limited to) their cooldown duration, their cooldown paradigm, the lockout time when interrupted, and many other attributes.
