Stealth refers to various positive effects that temporarily conceal a unit from enemies' sight regardless of the Fog of War. Stealth is divided into three categories: Camouflage, Invisibility and Stealthed traps. Camouflage conceals units only while no enemy champion is within the detection radius.

Stealth can be interrupted by the user via certain actions, most commonly casting an attack or ability. A stealthed unit can also be directly revealed by enemy effects that grant true sight.

Stealth should not be confused with vanish, an effect that removes a unit's model and does not interact with the mechanics described here.

  • While a unit is stealthed, enemies cannot select it, thus allowing it to effectively avoid many incoming threats. Most notably, unit-targeted spells (including basic attacks) cannot target enemies that the user does not have sight of.

 Edit Camouflage is a form of stealth that renders a unit hidden from enemy vision for a long period of time.

  • Camouflaged units become visible while an enemy champion is inside their detection radius and they are within said enemy's line of sight (e.g. camouflaged unit is not already hidden by being inside a brush, enemy's line of sight is not obstructed by terrain or reduced below the detection radius by nearsight); when within the line of sight of an enemy An icon for the item Control Ward Control Ward (900 units); or after being revealed by effects that apply True Sight.

  • While a camouflaged unit is visible, they will see an exclamation mark above their health bar, warning them that they can be seen.

    A stealthed unit's character model briefly shimmers for every instance of damage taken while stealthed. This shimmering does not make the unit selectable nor remove the stealth effect, only compromises its position.

 Edit Invisibility is a form of stealth that renders a unit hidden from enemy vision for a short period of time.

 Edit Stealthed traps are units that enter stealth shortly after being summoned, last for a duration, and are untargetable until they are revealed. True Sight is a form of vision that reveals stealthed units. All turrets have true sight over their area, and there are some champion abilities that apply it as well. An icon representing Mark Mark is the only summoner spell that applies true sight. The Sweeper Drone specifically reveals stealthed wards and traps.

When a stealthed unit that is revealed due to enemies having true sight over the area leaves that area, the stealthing unit does not experience a fade-out time, but is immediately concealed.

The obscured vision granted by An icon for the item Oracle Lens Oracle Lens' Sweeper Drone is the most commonly accessible form of detecting stealthed champions without revealing them and rendering them targetable. The Drone will expose the detected units' silhouette at regular intervals.

Auto-targeted effects that do not require sight to cast will show whether or not they can cast when an enemy is nearby (by lighting up in the HUD) even if the target in range is not visible. Damage over time effects that repeat over short intervals and are not prevented by the target will cause their silhouette to shimmer regularly, thus indicating their position with great precision.

Direction-targeted abilities (skill-shots) can still hit stealthed enemies, but they will not grant sight of them unless the ability has a stealth-revealing effect. The projectile may play visual and audio cues (e.g. An icon for Dr. Mundo's ability Infected Bonesaw Infected Bonesaw's splatter / blood eruption upon impact) which indicate if a stealthed unit is hit and may provide enough knowledge of their whereabouts. Particular cases of skill-shots that do not reveal units but play prominent effects are An icon for Lux's ability Light Binding Light Binding's cage VFX and An icon for Zyra's ability Grasping Roots Grasping Roots thorn VFX which show on enemy units' location even if the hit units themselves cannot be seen.

Breaking stealth[edit | edit source]

Stealth is lost immediately when starting or completing the attack windup of a basic attack or upon casting an ability, unless otherwise stated. Using consumables or trinkets does not break stealth. Summoner spells and item actives vary. Casting An icon representing Recall Recall will always break stealth.
