About the assignment  关于本次作业

This task is a written proposal for your final portfolio project. It should outline your creative intentions, as well as the compositional and production approaches you plan to use. You will also discuss how your work will be situated within broader musical, stylistic, and conceptual contexts.

The task is an opportunity to define the artistic direction you plan to take for your portfolio, identify your influences, and demonstrate that you have investigated the tools and techniques you intend to use. Where appropriate, it should be written in the future tense, acknowledging that the work is in development.

Your proposal must address the following areas:

Keep in mind that the final length of your portfolio submitted at the end of the semester must be between 10–15 minutes. You can choose one of these three formats to make up that length:

• A set of shorter works (3–5 compositions between 2–5 minutes each)

• A mix of 1 longform (6–9 minutes) and 2 shorter works (2–4 minutes each)

• At least three (3) released musical works by different artists/groups that serve as compositional, stylistic, or technical references for your project.

• At least three (3) written sources, such as books, journal articles, artist interviews, or manuals, that help contextualise your ideas and inform your process.

• All sources must be cited using Harvard referencing and listed in a reference list.

You will submit a single written document in PDF format labelled in the following manner:

Submitting your assignment

You must submit your assignment here by 5:00pm on Friday 15 August in the form of a neatly organised PDF document. Late submissions will result in an automatic grade of zero, as outlined below.

Late submission policy  迟交政策

If you require an extension, you must email the tutor between 7 days and 24 hours prior to the submission time, with the form at the below link filled out, with appropriate medical certificate or supporting documentation.

The extension can only be for a maximum of seven days. If you require longer you must apply for special consideration.

If you are aware of ongoing conditions that will affect your ability to submit assessments, you can also apply for an equitable learning plan.

There is no “percent per day” penalty. Any assessment that is late, even by 1 second on the online system, will incur a 0 grade.
